Oracle APEX – Permissions management
Usually we find in most systems we do for all our customers a range of modules that are common to all systems regardless of the business that drive the application.
Managing users, control access permissions … Such modules are becoming repetitive work by the developers, who must create again and again identical management modules for different systems.
From Oracle APEX World we are working on creating SCRIPT performing the creation of WS and an application with basic functionality implemented to serve as a base to build on it any kind of system. Regarding the user management is easy to realize the required fields for the tool to function properly … however, with respect to the management of permits should be building something so versatile that can be given the widest possible coverage.
A priori, modules do not seem too complicated to implement and repeat on each system, but we can reduce development time a couple of days thanks to the existence of such modules, we will achieve a reduction in customer cost impact which may encompass at certain times the difference between winning and losing a customer.
Oracle APEX – Gestión de permisos
Habitualmente nos encontramos en la mayoría de los sistemas que realizamos para todos nuestros clientes una serie de módulos que suelen ser comunes a todos los sistemas con independencia del negocio que maneje el aplicativo.
La gestión de usuarios, el control de permisos de acceso… Este tipo de módulos suelen convertirse en trabajo repetitivos por parte de los desarrolladores, quienes deben crear una y otra vez módulos de gestión idénticos para diferentes sistemas.
Desde Oracle APEX World estamos trabajando en la creación de SCRIPT que realice la creación del WS y de un aplicativo con la funcionalidad base implementada que sirva como base para construir sobre él cualquier tipo de sistema. Con respecto a la gestión de los usuarios resulta sencillo darse cuenta de los campos necesarios para que la herramienta funcione de manera adecuada… sin embargo, con respecto a la gestión de los permisos se debe construir algo polivalente de manera que se pueda dar la mayor cobertura posible.
A priori, no parecen módulos demasiado complicados de implementar y de repetir en cada sistema, pero sin conseguimos reducir el tiempo de desarrollo un par de días gracias a la existencia de este tipo de módulos, conseguiremos una reducción de costes repercutidos al cliente que podrán suponer en determinados momentos la diferencia entre ganar o perder un cliente.
Oracle APEX and iFrames
Recently I published a post that was well received on the integration of Oracle APEXand Joomla … but it says something very important to keep in mind when going to dothis type of integration. Oracle APEX is unusual to leave our control in a very easy control of security, and this is where we must emphasize when Oracle APEXintegration with Joomla (or any iFrame).
For applications made with Oracle APEX can be displayed within an iFrame, you must enable the option (default off). Without this small configuration we can not display the application on our website made with Joomla. Then I refer you to where you canenable this option.
Application Builder -> Our application -> Shared Components -> Edit definition -> Security
If we go down the screen, find the next region where we can enable the applicationcan be displayed within an iFrame….
Oracle APEX and iFrames
Hace poco publique un POST que tuvo una gran acogida sobre la integración de Oracle APEX y Joomla… pero no indique algo muy importante a tener en cuenta cuando se va a hacer este tipo de integraciones. Oracle APEX tiene la peculiaridad de dejar a nuestro control de una manera muy sencilla el control de la seguridad, y es aquí, donde debemos hacer hincapié a la hora de integrar Oracle APEX con Joomla (o con cualquier iFrame).
Para que las aplicaciones realizadas con Oracle APEX se puedan mostrar dentro de un iFrame, es necesario habilitar la opción (por defecto desactivada). Sin hacer esta pequeña configuración no podremos visualizar la aplicación en nuestra web hecha con Joomla. A continuación os indico donde se puede habilitar esta opción.
Application builder -> Nuestra aplicación -> Shared Components -> Edit definition -> Security
Si bajamos por la pantalla, encontraremos la siguiente región donde podremos habilitar que la aplicación se pueda mostrar dentro de un iFrame.

Oracle APEX & Joomla
I think many of you may be interested in this article and in order that it can reach as many people as possible, I decided to write in English.
It is increasingly common for our customers demand the full integration of their data. On one side you have your website, on the other hand have their CRM, ERP another …
We recently encountered a case of a client who wanted to build a website, but needed to give the power of Oracle APEX to their customers (and he is enjoying in its CRM).
We considered the possibility of the complete design of the Web on Oracle APEX CSS changing all that were necessary and making a new template … but after several failed attempts, but in which the client was not completely satisfied, we said a friend of his had a website made ??with Joomla and asked if it would be possible to do something similar but with the power of integrated Oracle APEX … the answer is obvious!
The integration between both systems was very simple. Oracle APEX assemble pages on the Printer Friendly staff, with reports, forms, etc … needed by the client in each case. Later, thanks to the possibility of integrating Joomla provides a few pages into other, we made the call to our site from where it was necessary and READY!! Joomla got to have tightly integrated with Oracle APEX by direct access to the database and the speed and power it offers.

Oracle APEX Tour
Maybe we should start our blog with this post after our explanation that is Oracle APEX, but as they say … Better late than never! We give you a brief tour of the Oracle APEX environment that you may know, even superficially, all the possibilities offered by this Framework. In the picture you can see a skeleton of navigation and structure of Oracle APEX. We identify the home page with a starting point when we logamos in our workspace. From now on we found a series of modules which will be described briefly:
Application Builder: This is the place where we can create or edit pages and applications. This is probably the place where we spend more time while we develop a system.
SQL Workshop: This is the place where we can interact directly with the database. Think like a SQL Workshop SQL PLUS integrated into Oracle APEX.
Team Development: This is the section where you can enter to track information related to application development.
Administration: You can manage the data related to the work area, the default data, user data, groups … Managers will have more options available to normal users.

Más vale tarde que nunca!!! Queremos daros una pequeña vuelta por el entorno de Oracle APEX para que conozcáis, aunque sea superficialmente, todas las posibilidades que nos brinda este Framework. En la imagen os mostramos un esqueleto de navegación y estructura de Oracle APEX. Identificamos el Home Page con punto de inicio cuando nos logamos en nuestro espacio de trabajo. De aquí en adelante nos encontramos una serie de módulos que vamos a describir brevemente:
Application Builder: Es el sitio desde donde podemos crear o modificar las páginas y aplicaciones. Se trata probablemente del sitio en el que más tiempo pasemos mientras desarrollemos un sistema.
SQL Workshop: Se trata del lugar donde podremos interactuar directamente con la base de datos. Piensa en el SQL Workshop como en un SQL PLUS integrado en Oracle APEX.
Administración: Podrá gestionar los datos relacionados con el área de trabajo, los datos por defecto, los datos de usuario, grupos… Los administradores tendrán más opciones disponibles que los usuarios normales.
Team Development: Es la sección donde puede entrar para realizar un seguimiento de la información relacionada con el desarrollo de aplicaciones.

Configuration and deployment of PDF printing in APEX 4.1.1 using GlassFish 3.1.2 and Apache FOP

Environment: Oracle database 11.2.0.3, APEX 4.1.1, GlassFish 3.1.2 Open Source Edition (Web Profile), Oracle Linux 6.2
Update: Apache FOP support has been deprecated in ORDS 19.2. So please don’t upgrade to ORDS 19.2 (or higher) if you still rely on Apache FOP for PDF generation.
Apache FOP (XSL-FO Processor) can be used together with APEX to allow PDF printing of classic or interactive reports. In this blog post, I will explain how you can deploy and configure FOP in APEX 4.1.1 with GlassFish 3.1.2.
Apache FOP can be installed on a Java application server by deploying the fop.war web archive, which can be found in the /utilities/fop folder inside the APEX installation files. However, the fop.war file does not work out of the box on GlassFish 3.1.2.

Oracle APEX & Joomla
Cada día es más habitual que nuestros clientes nos demanden la integración total de sus datos. Por un lado tienen su página web, por otro lado tienen su CRM, por otro el ERP…
Recientemente nos hemos encontrado un caso de un cliente que quería montar una página Web, pero necesitaba darle la potencia de Oracle APEX a sus clientes (él ya la está disfrutando en su CRM).
Nos planteamos la posibilidad de hacer el diseño completo de la Web sobre Oracle APEX modificando todas las CSS que fuesen necesarias y haciendo una nueva plantilla… pero después de varios intentos no fallidos, pero en los que el cliente no quedó del todo conforme, nos comentó que un amigo suyo tenía una página Web hecha con Joomla y nos preguntó si sería posible hacerle algo similar pero con la potencia de Oracle APEX integrada… La respuesta es evidente!!!
La integración entre ambos sistemas fue muy sencilla. Montamos páginas sobre Oracle APEX con la plantilla Printer Friendly, con los informes, formularios, etc… que necesitaba el cliente en cada caso. Posteriormente, y gracias a la posibilidad que brinda Joomla de integrar unas páginas dentro de otras, hicimos la llamada a nuestras páginas desde el punto donde era necesario y LISTO!!!! Conseguimos tener Joomla perfectamente integrado con Oracle APEX mediante un acceso directo a la base de datos y con la velocidad y potencia que nos ofrece.
